This incredible 9" x 7" Original Photograph was hand signed in black fountain ink by the legendary Honus Wagner. played 21 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1897 to 1917, almost entirely for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wagner won eight batting titles, tied for the most in National League history with Tony Gwynn. He also led the league in slugging six times, and in stolen bases five times. When the Baseball Hall of Fame held its first election in 1936, Wagner tied for second in the voting with Babe Ruth, trailing Cobb. A 1942 Sporting News poll of 100 former players and managers confirmed this opinion, with Wagner finishing 43 votes behind Cobb and six ahead of Ruth. In 1969, on the 100th anniversary of professional baseball, a vote was taken to honor the greatest players ever, and Wagner was selected as the all-time shortstop.

The photograph originates from the Cookie Lavagetto collection and has never been offered publicly. This Wagner Autograph stretches nearly the entire photographs width and was done in a very elegant Calligraphy style as Wagner was known to do often. The item comes with a full JSA LOA as well as a letter from the Lavagetto family and Steiner Auctions.
