Lou Gehrig signed checks are rarely ever available, and this check is one of the more valuable Lou Gehrig signed checks for various different reasons. This is a nearly impossible to find New York Yankees payroll check signed in his full name "Louis" Gehrig on the reverse in fountain ink. The Gehrig signature has nice clean eye appeal and is a very rare full name early signature example. The signature is in the mid to low grade range as it does present some visible fading as evidenced in the images. This American League Base Ball Club of New York Inc Yorkville Bank check has also been endorsed on the front by Yankees then owner Jacob Ruppert in bold fountain pen. The check is for the Sum of $707.52 and was issued on June 15th, 1927.

Besides the check itselfs impeccable condition and rarity, what makes this check one of the most valuable Lou Gehrig signed checks in existence is the fact that the check was issued on June 15th, 1927.

1927 was Gehrig’s finest year as a ball player. Awarded the American League MVP award he finished the season with an incredible .373 batting average, 47 home runs, 173 RBIs, 218 hits and a .765 slugging percentage. This very Yankee payroll check was issued to Gehrig in the middle of the greatest string of games he ever put together. The check is also signed on the front by Ed barrow and all three signatures have been authenticated by James Spence Authentication.
