This wonderful Spalding "Star" baseball is signed by Babe Ruth and comedian Joe E. Brown. The ball dates to 1927, the year in which Ruth set his long-standing single-season home-run record. Ruth has inscribed a side panel in black fountain pen, "To Jack Albright/From/Babe Ruth/Jan 8 1927." Ruth's signature is classic and displays all of the desirable charateristics. Joe E. Brown has scripted his name in black fountain pen on the side panel opposite the Ruth inscription. Although there are many baseballs signed by Babe Ruth, examples that can be dated specifically to the historic 1927 season are rare and of special note. If Brown did sign it in 1927 as well, it dates from a time in his career when he was a top vaudeville performer. In 1929 he began making films and for the next twenty years he ruled as one of the top box-office comedians. Brown also had many ties to baseball. He played professional baseball prior to his stage career, made a number of popular baseball movies, including Alibi Ike, and his son, Joe L. Brown, later served as general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates for over twenty years. The ball is in Very Good condition overall. Auction Estimate $15,000+
