Dwight D. Eisenhower was an American politician and Army general who served as the 34th President of the United States from 1953 until 1961. He was a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe. He was responsible for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942–43 and the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944–45 from the Western Front.

Eisenhower entered the 1952 presidential race as a Republican, in order to block the foreign policies of Senator Robert A. Taft. He won two landslide elections, becoming the first Republican winner to do so since 1928. Eisenhower's main goals in office were to contain the expansion of the Soviet Union and reduce federal deficits. In 1953, he threatened the use of nuclear weapons until China agreed to terms regarding POWs in the Korean War. An armistice ended the stalemated conflict. His New Look policy of nuclear deterrence prioritized inexpensive nuclear weapons while reducing funding for expensive Army divisions. He continued Truman's policy of recognizing the Republic of China as the legitimate government of China, and he won congressional approval of the Formosa Resolution. After the Soviet Union launched Sputnik in 1957, Eisenhower authorized the establishment of NASA, which led to the space race. Voted Gallup's most admired man twelve times, he achieved widespread popular esteem both in and out of office. Since the late 20th century, consensus among Western scholars has consistently held Eisenhower as one of the greatest U.S. Presidents.

This lot features one of the finest, if not the finest and most well documented single signed baseball signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower. The baseball is extremely clean with only very light toning and the Eisenhower signature is nearly perfect, with absolutely no fading or even breaks in the pen during the signing of the ball. The signature would easily rate a (9-10) in our opinion while the baseball (considering its 70-year age) would still rate between a 7-9 with the overall potential grade to be in the 8.5-9.5 range in our opinion. Even more spectacular, the Dwight D Eisenhower signature doesn’t wrap around the entire ball and can also be presented entirely from one angle as opposed to most of his other examples. The ball originates from the Cookie Lavagetto Collection and was obtained during his time as the Washington Senator's coach during the 1956 season as the photo is dated April 17, 1956. The lot also includes an original photo of Lavagetto holding several baseball's while Eisenhower signed for him. The striking evidence can only mean that this baseball was signed during Eisenhower's term in office as President. With all things considered surrounding this baseball, it is safe to say that this baseball would without a doubt be the World’s Finest, most well documented, and most valuable Dwight D. Eisenhower baseball's ever known. This is the first time this ball has ever come to public auction, originating directly from the Lavagetto Family. The provenance includes, photo documentation, a full JSA LOA, and a Steiner Sports/Lavagetto Collection Letter of Authenticity.
