Bernhard "Barney" Dreyfuss (February 23, 1865 - February 5, 1932) was a Major League Baseball executive and Pittsburgh Pirates owner who many people credit with establishing the World Series. Originally an executive for a bourbon company, Dreyfuss’ turned his fondness for baseball into a business venture when he purchased the Louisville Colonels of the American Association and later, the National League. Prior to the start of the 1900 season, Dreyfuss acquired ownership of the Pirates. During the 32 years he owned the club, the Pirates captures six National League pennants and two World Series titles (1909, 1925). Dreyfuss also was an influential voice in the creation of the office of baseball commissioner. The Veterans Committee enshrined him in the Hall of Fame in 2008.
