This lot contains a framed portrait of famed gunfighter Wyatt Earp, along with an authentic business card from Earp’s saloon, The Dexter, in Nome Alaska. Wyatt Earp and his wife Josie traveled to Nome, Alaska in 1899 to follow the Alaska Gold Rush. Along with business partner Charlie Hoxie, he opened the Dexter Saloon. The Dexter was the first two-story building and the largest saloon in Nome, and Earp advertised it as “the only second-class saloon in Alaska.” The Dexter made a lot of money for the Earps, but in 1901 they sold out and left town. Wyatt Earp was best known as a lawman and gunfighter, but he was also a professional gambler, buffalo hunter and owner of several saloons. Earp has been the subject of numerous films, television shows, biographies, and works of fiction which have increased his fame. His modern-day reputation is that of one of the Old West's toughest and deadliest gunmen. A small group of these cards was discovered some years ago by Tom Martin. The card is in excellent condition. 4" x 2.5".
