Presented is the 1969 NEA-CBS All Pro Football Team Trophy presented to Hall of Fame defensive end David "Deacon" Jones. Jones was a former defensive end for the Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers, and Washington Redskins. Nicknamed the Secretary of Defense for his ability to sack the quarterback at ease, Deacon Jones was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1980. Jones was a part of the legendary "Fearsome Foursome" defensive line with the Rams, which is considered one of the greatest defensive lines of all time. Having been selected to eight Pro Bowls, Jones is credited for coining the phrase "Sacking the quarterback" and was the first to use the innovative head slap to allow defenders to get an extra step. Jones ranks third on the all time sack list having accounted for 194.5 over his career. 1969 was the second year in a row that he was the Leagues Most Valuable Defensive Player and he had 24 sacks in that 14 game season. This trophy reads "NEA-CBS All Pro Football Team" trophy from the private collection of NFL legend Deacon Jones. This item comes with a Deacon Jones-Steiner Sports Letter of Authenticity.
