Presented is the 1968 NEA-CBS All Pro Football Team Trophy presented to Hall of Fame defensive end David "Deacon" Jones. Jones was a former defensive end for the Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers, and Washington Redskins. Nicknamed the Secretary of Defense for his ability to sack the quarterback at ease, Deacon Jones was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1980. Jones was a part of the legendary "Fearsome Foursome" defensive line with the Rams, which is considered one of the greatest defensive lines of all time. Having been selected to eight Pro Bowls, Jones is credited for coining the phrase "Sacking the quarterback" and was the first to use the innovative head slap to allow defenders to get an extra step. Jones ranks third on the all time sack list having accounted for 194.5 over his career. In 1968 Deacon had 26 sacks and 100 unassisted tackles in a 14 game season, plus another 6 sacks in two playoff games. That feat has never been accomplished before or after Deacon. This trophy has some handling wear and shows signs of cracking a the base and ankles area as well as other areas shown in the photos. This trophy reads "NEA-CBS All Pro Football Team" and comes from the private collection of NFL legend Deacon Jones. This item comes with a Deacon Jones-Steiner Sports Letter of Authenticity.
