Major League baseball has been giving out lifetime passes to ball players, politicians and a long list of who's who ever since 1907. Believe it or not President Theodore Roosevelt was the first ever individual to receive a lifetime pass which was good for him to attend any MLB game in the country and he never once used it. The president, was a fan of more combative sports like boxing and football, and was open that he was not a baseball fan. Plenty of others are, though and since Roosevelt was presented with that pass in 1907, hundreds of major league players, umpires, coaches, and staff have received a “golden ticket,” good for free admission to any of the MLB’s 30 stadiums—with a few asterisks.According to Phyllis Merhige, Major League Baseball's senior vice president of club relations- “It’s for anyone with eight years in uniform or 25 years in the front office.” The pass—once paper and leather-bound, now a gold-covered alloy—entitles the recipient to enter any regular-season game of his or her choosing, along with one guest.

This lot features the Major League lifetime pass that was presented to and personally owned and used by Cookie Lavagetto. The silver pass reads in embossed lettering "THE NATIONAL AMERICAN MAJOR LEAGUES OF PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PRESENT THIS LIFETIME PASS TO HARRY LAVAGETTO IN APPRECIATION OF LONG AND MERITORIOUS SERVICE." The pass comes with a letter of authenticity from Steiner Auctions/Lavagetto Family.
