Cookie Lavagetto was a third baseman, manager and coach. He was the pinch hitter whose double ruined Bill Bevens' no-hitter in Game 4 of the 1947 World Series and gave his Brooklyn Dodgers a victory over the New York Yankees, a game known as The Cookie Game. On October 3, 1947 at Ebbets Field, Bevens was ahead 2–1 going into the bottom of the ninth inning, and got two outs. He had surrendered no hits — an unprecedented World Series achievement at the time — but two runners were on base from Bevens' ninth and tenth walks of the game. Lavagetto was summoned by Dodger pilot Burt Shotton to hit for Eddie Stanky, and with no balls and one strike cracked an opposite-field double off the right field wall to break up the no-hitter and score the two Dodger runners (pinch runners Al Gionfriddo and Eddie Miksis) for a 3–2 Brooklyn win. It was Lavagetto's only hit of the series (won by the Yankees in seven games), and his last as a big leaguer.

Featured in this lot is a game used glove worn by Lavagetto during the 1940's. The tan leather glove shows tremendous use, yet is still in incredible condition. The glove is manufactured by Rawlings. A black and red Rawlings tag is stitched onto the bottom forefront of the glove. On the inside of the glove RAWLINGS is imprinted in to the palm. The gloves patent number is imprinted along the side of the gloves thumb. While there is no photographic evidence that this glove was used during the 1947 World Series, the era that it was used in during the 1940's fits the time period of the World Series and with the much lesser amounts of equipment players went through back then, it is possible that this glove was used during that World Series. The value of this glove will only go up over time as game used equipment from that era has become very scarce.

The glove comes with a letter of authenticity from Steiner Auctions/Lavagetto Family. According to the family, they believe the glove could have been used during the 1947 Season and in the World Series.
