Presented is a rare Babe Ruth Louisville Slugger 40K “Kork Grip” Bat. This tremendous bat is very special and as Babe Ruth historians and collectors know, Louisville Slugger's Professional Bat Ordering Record (PBOR) lists a request from Ruth on April 10, 1923 for a 40K-model "Kork Grip" bat based. Famously, Ruth was pictured during pre-game festivities at Yankee Stadium's first Opening Day, April 18, 1923, with just such a Kork Grip in hand. This 40K model is consistent with the 40K order appearing on Ruth’s PBOR, the length of the bat is perfect at 36” and the weight today (39.8 oz.) is an acceptable range for bats used by Babe Ruth during the historic 1923 season. Cork-handled bats are the stuff of legend in collecting circles. They were invented by Ty Cobb, wielded by Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner and Shoeless Joe Jackson. Uncracked with excellent use including several ball marks make this Babe Ruth bat a must have for any serious collector. These 40K Babe Ruth bats are very desirable and fetch large dollars when they surface at auction. Please note the multiple attached photographs of Babe Ruth with 40K bats from 1923. LOA from MEARS.
