The 1968 Topps Baseball consists of 598 cards, each measuring 2-1/2" by 3-1/2”. Card fronts feature large color photographs bordered by the visual appearance of a wood frame. The player’s name is below the photo but on the unusual background; a colored circle on the lower right carries the team and position. Subsets include League Leader (#1-12), World Series (#151-158) and All-Star cards (#361-380), as well as rookie cards and Checklists (which were “Double Printed”). Anchored by many Hall of Famers, including the rookie cards of Nolan Ryan (#177) and Johnny Bench (#247), the set also holds claim to second-year cards of Tom Seaver (#45) and Rod Carew (#80), Mickey Mantle's second-last Topps issue (#280), and highly sought-after “singles” featuring more than one player including the “Bird Belters”combo card (#530) showcasing Orioles stars Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson, the “Manager's Dream”single (#480) with Roberto Clemente, Chico Cardenas and Tony Oliva, and the “Super Stars” card (#490) that boasts Harmon Killebrew, Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle. Among the set’s more coveted entries are Mickey Lolich (#414) and the Tigers Team card (#528).
