Carl Yastrzemski made his Major League debut with the Boston Red Sox in 1961 and for the next 23 years he proudly wore his famous "#8" for the Sox. He had an extraordinary batting style and unmatched skill in patrolling the grounds in front of the Green Monster, and during Boston's "Impossible Dream" season in 1967, he won the American League Triple Crown and was named the AL Most Valuable Player. Yastrzemski is an 18-time All-Star, the possessor of seven Gold Gloves, a member of the 3,000 hit club, and the first American League player in that club to also accumulate over 400 home runs. He is second on the all-time list for games played, and third for total at-bats. He is the Red Sox' all-time leader in career RBIs, runs, hits, singles, doubles, total bases, and games played, and is third on the team's list for home runs behind Ted Williams and David Ortiz. "Yaz" was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.

In 1957, the baseball glove manufacturer Rawlings created the Gold Glove Award to commemorate the best fielding performance at each position. The award was created from a glove made from gold lamé-tanned leather and affixed to a walnut base. Initially, only one Gold Glove per position was awarded to the top fielder at each position in Major League Baseball; however, separate awards were given for the National and American Leagues beginning in 1958. Here we present the leading symbol of that record of achievement, the rare "career" Gold Glove presented only to those players claiming a top defensive ranking four or more times in a career. The Gold Glove rises from the center podium, upon which a portrait of the 1967 Triple Crown winner is imprinted. Golden baseballs are presented at each edge, set upon a base bearing a plaque with twin "Rawlings" logos and the text, "Rawlings Gold Glove Award, Presented to Carl Yastrzemski, 7 Time Recipient, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1977." Very light handling wear is evident only upon the closest of inspection. Several of this exact award for Carl Yastrzemski were produced and given to a trusted source close to Yaz, with one of these being sold in 2013 for $20,315.00.
