Hideki Matsui, or Godzilla as he was nicknamed in Japan, came to the New York Yankees in 2003. After playing his entire career with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan, Matsui left Japan having amassed 1,390 hits, 332 HR, 889 RBI and a .304 lifetime average. With the reputation of being a Home Run hitter and an RBI machine, Matsui didn?t disappoint in his 2003 debut on a cold April day in the Bronx, hitting an RBI single in his first at-bat and adding a memorable Grand Slam in the 5th inning on Opening Day vs. Minnesota Twins. Since his debut in 2003, Matsui has gone on to hit over 125 Major League HR and 500 RBI, appear in two All Star Games (2003, 2004) and became the first Japanese Player to hit a HR in the World Series. To this day, Matsui remains a fan favorite in the Bronx. Hideki Matsui has hand signed this Yankee Stadium Final Season commemorative baseball. A Steiner Sports Certificate of Authenticity is included.
