Spring Fever Auction
This lot features a true museum piece, and rare collectible for any baseball historian, and Yankees fan. It's not every year the opportunity comes along to own a dual signed baseball signed by two of the greatest players of all time, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Through out all of their accomplishments both individually and as teammates, it's interesting to note that towards the end of their careers they really didn't get along too well. When Gehrig was a rookie just starting out he like many others were in awe of the Babe. As Lou's career progressed and his star would grow he began to stand up to the Babe in the locker room and their relationship started to take a turn for the worse.
This ball can easily be displayed as a single signed Gehrig baseball. Gehrig's signature would scale between a 4-6 grade. A single signed Gehrig baseball sold for $27,540.00 in Steiner's previous auction. Adding to the balls value is that Ruth signed the sweet spot, although somewhat faded, sweetspot signatures always carry a premium. While Ruth's signature is legible, it appears to have faded a bit due to the balls age. Gehrig's signature appears in more prominently in black ink. Estimated value of dual signed Gehrig and Ruth balls can easily hit the 20k range.
This ball is authenticated by JSA and is accompanied by a full letter from JSA.
